Wrapping up the Holidays – Easy, simple organizing solution

Twelfth Night (5th January) signifies the end of the Christmas holiday that had begun on Christmas Day. The morning after Twelfth Night is marked as the Epiphany and supposed to celebrate the day that the three Magi arrived from the east.

It seems strange then that in the United Kingdom the tradition says, it is the night that we are supposed to have taken down all our holiday decorations. Leaving them up bringing bad luck that anyone who forgets to take them down must leave them in place all year to avoid misfortune.

So before the 5th Jan has time to arrive and before all those needles have fallen from the tree, I have a very simple organizing idea I would like to share.

Little hand made boxes; great for those handmade soaps

The holidays are nearly here. Black Friday will be upon us where we all spend hours either wondering around the shops, or on the internet trying to figure out what to buy for friends and family.

Handmade gifts for the holidays are always a great way to show that you appreciate and care. It’s not always the cheapest option but even wrapping some shop bought soaps up in their own special packaging makes them extra special. If you make your own soap (as I do, see this post) then make sure you leave plenty of time to allow the alkali and oils to fully cure and all the water to go before making and wrapping, (at least 6 weeks).

These simple boxes are a great and simple idea that means you can use any card-stock you like for each of your gifts.

Fabric Baskets, Give as a Gift or Gift Basket

I know that thanksgiving hasn’t arrived yet but for those of us who make gifts, you can never start sewing or gift making too early. As I recently made one of these fabric baskets with a baby blanket and soft toy for a friend’s new baby I’ve got the bug for making a few more. With the holidays coming around they make great gifts either on their own, or use as an alternative to a stocking. Add some weekend staples for when your holiday’s guests come over to stay.

This basic fabric pattern can be used over and over again, scaled up and down or change the handles for a grocery tote bag.

Thanksgiving Rosette Napkins

Now that Halloween is over, all the black Friday television adverts are hitting the airways. This of course just reminds us that thanksgiving is just around the corner. Whether you are catering for just close family or you’ve lots of guests over, you’ll want to make the table looks its best. The simplest decorations are usually the best and if they are quick and easy to put together then that’s even better.

These are a simple and elegant. Like these napkin rings in this post , these use kitchen roll inserts to provide the basis for the rings.
