Beer Burlap Bunting

Bunting is obviously a favorite of mine, because its cheap and easy to make. If you want to take a simple idea further then this is an alternative. I’ve added texture and dimension to this party bunting by adding layers of paper and burlap.

What else would say “Cheers!” better than this beer themed bunting?

These are the materials you’ll need:

  • Printed letters and backing papers in-keeping with the theme. I used “Algerian” ┬áto give additional depth, using word processing software and playing with the colors. Printed papers were found free on the inter-web.
  • Burlap and twine
  • Adhesive
  • Thread and sewing machine (although hand sewing the letters is an option)

Cut out the letters, (here I’ve used a template made with an old paper-pad back to get an even finish).

Add strips of permanent adhesive on the back. Adhesive dots could be used, but you’ll need quite a few to keep the letter fixed.

Stick the letter down to the backing leaving a strip of the backing visible.

Cut out the shape with a craft knife, using a clear ruler helps to give a consistent width.

To hang the burlap on the twine, first make a small crease in the burlap and stitch the letter using a colored thread.

This was easy with a sewing machine, but could be done with hand sewing, just take your time to get the stitches even, those stitches are going to be on view.

Then thread the twine through and spread the letters in appropriate spaces.

Doesn’t the backing with the burlap add a nice dimension and texture.

This would be great for a country barn themed wedding.
